Waternish has three Dark Sky discovery sites so is an ideal base for some winter star gazing.
On Waternish, our nearest street light is in Lochmaddy, 21 miles away across the Minch in the Outer Hebrides. So here we have a unique opportunity for some special star gazing. At various times different planets are highly visible, as well as the Milky Way, Orion, Leo, the Plough and hundreds of other constellations.
There are three special Dark Sky sites on the peninsula – at Stein jetty, Trumpan Church and Knockbreck school or you can just enjoy the view of the night sky from the garden of Auld Orwell without going any further.
So come and enjoy the night sky on Skye and after a spot of star gazing come in and sit round the log fire and enjoy a dram.
